Goodbye Strider

I take great enjoyment out of being a doggy auntie, and my first real experience being one was with my nephew, Strider. He was a wonderful dog and I will miss him terribly. He was put to sleep yesterday after they discovered aggressive cancer throughout his digestive system. The picture above is one of my favorites of him (in the black collar) playing in the leaves with his brother, Jag.

Goodbye, sweet boy.

More than a few tears flowed freely in Maryland today for news of the loss of your fur-nephew. I'm so sorry, Anne... there are giant hugs being thought at you right now, and if your cats are anything like Miss Kitty, they're being awfully tolerant of the extra kisses landing on their heads today. :) *HUG*

I cried a lot last night, Jen. It brought up feelings and memories of when a childhood pet, Gunny, died.

It seems to me that one opens oneself to certain anguish when one loves a pet, but in greater measure, one receives certain joy from the devotion and love they return.
