Trying to not do

Every time I've started a blog entry for the last few days, I haven't gotten much further than the opening phrase or first half of a sentance.
Why? I don't know.
Work has been busy. Outside of work I've been busy too (yes Nate, you'll notice I have difficulty not doing).
Tonight I'm going to do some pottery painting -- a mug for the office "white elephant" exchange at the holiday party.
Last night, I made honey-lemon baklava for the office cookie exchange tomorrow. While I was doing that, I watched "Angels in America" which won so many Emmy Awards last year. It was a bit peculiar. It featured lots of characters, few of whom I identified with (homosexuals, Jews, Mormons, lawyers, the mentally ill). The storylines were very interesting, though, including a reluctant prophet and a man who struggles against being something he believes he will go to hell for.
Sunday, I played indoor soccer, as usual. Our team got our butts handed to us by a very skilled team with half the number of players. I also went shopping, but didn't buy any Christmas presents and few holiday decorations. And I made catfood for the kitties. I also went to church and had brunch with the extended family.
Saturday evening I went up to Fort Collins to celebrate Max's birthday with him and Gabe and Krissy. That was fun.
And on Saturday morning...
I sat in front of the TV and watched "Frequency" (which I've seen before and liked) and "Serendipity" (which I hadn't seen before and thought it was OK).
So you see, I did goof off, for about 4 hours.

I play with a bunch of friends (coed) through an amateur league here in Denver. We pay to participate and play year-round about once a week. I've been playing for about a year and a half now and never played on a team before this. I imagine it's a lot like the coed league you've seen before. It's fun, and the experience of being part of a team is really interesting and a good learning experience.
As for "Angels in America", it certainly is well done, and the acting is very good. As I said, some of the storylines are intriguing and thought-provoking. I'm feeling so ambivalent about it, I really couldn't say if I recommend it or not.

How do we count going to church and having brunch with the extended family? Goofing off? I sure would. About the soccer game, it would be interesting to know how long that really good team has been playing together and if they practice between games (or is that against the rules in that league; i.e. getting too serious about it?). I definitely wouldn't put "going to church" in the goofing off column.
Having brunch with the family is borderline. I'd maybe classify it as somewhat "relaxing" but not goofing off.
If you have to drive to get to it, it's not goofing off.

Oops, meant to add...
I don't know how long the other team has been playing together, but I suspect they were a B-league team that has come down in the world, whereas we are a D-league team that has only recently moved up.
They may or may not practice between games. It's certainly allowed if you can rope your team into committing time and money (fees for renting the field) to it. If your team is serious about it, or has players with enough experience, you can reach the A-league pretty quickly. My team has been playing for a year and a half and has only recently moved from D to C. If they put too much emphasis on winning and moving up in the league though, I'm quitting. I'm in it to have fun and have too many other commitments to put much more time in it than I already have.
Really, I didn't mind losing on Sunday because I had fun while we were playing. Not only was the other team skillful, they were clean players. I can't say everyone on my team walked away happy, but that's thier problem.

I'm always amazed in the difficulty the female gender has in "goofing off" so your accomplishment is very noteworthy.

Thanks. I've been working on it. :)
