Forget It

Sometimes it's sad when something that's interesting or important to you isn't remembered by a friend. It's bound to happen sometimes, and friends are human too, but it's still a reminder of how we're not as interesting or important as we sometimes think we are. Floating around in our own bubble universes.

So sorry Anne . . . you *are* right, it's bound to happen sometimes. And it might not be that YOU aren't as interesting or important as you think you are. I might be something that's going on with that person and not about you at all. I know I've forgotten important things where someone else is concerned and it's never because they aren't important to me. I think you'll find that you could say the same. Happens to the best of us!

That does leave one feeling sad. I agree w/ Aileen that it's not always about oneself when a friend forgets. Sometimes we forget that other people have lives outside our friendship circle. I read an article that says when our minds have reached capacity it starts jettisoning things to make more room. The article said it makes no distinction as to importance or relevance, it just pitches. That's why one can remember lyrics from 20 years ago, but not what your friend told you a few days ago that was important to remember.

I agree with you both that it is mostly due to what's going on with the other person (it HAS happened to me). Doesn't stop me from having an emotional reaction -- it just means I understand where the other person might be coming from.

Emotions are what they are and good, bad or indifferent, we do own them :)
I think it happens to everyone at one point or another. I think if the same friend(s) forget(s) repetitively, then I think you might need to re-evaluate the "friend" part.

Of course, but that wasn't the case this time.
