Test Run

I made sugar cookies this weekend with some of my new cookie cutters. They were a lot of fun to make. I used Alton Brown's recipe for sugar cookies and royal icing. I think I overbeat the icing. I was trying to achieve the "stiff, glossy peaks" (never really got there) instead of going for the 5-7 minutes. I think Jenn did the latter when we used the same recipes at Christmas. So, mine was stiffer, and harder to work with (in my opinion). The other issue was that I had some crappy plastic bags for piping bags. If I had used slightly more expensive plastic bags, it would have worked out better. Next time: less beating, better bagging.
So, I'm just going to have to practice. [Shrug.] Oh well. As all my testers and cookie disposal helpers pointed out, "practice makes perfect."

Hm...sugar cookies.

I don't like icing, though. Sprinkled with raw sugar granules, that's my fave.

I don't like sugar cookies much at all, iced or un-iced, but my brother's girlfriend made these at Christmas, and they were very good. The difference, I think, is that they're an ALTON BROWN recipe. They, strangely enough for a "sugar" cookie, are not overly sweet, more of a butter cookie than sugar. And, of course, not being too sweet, a little bit of icing is nice.

At Christmas, we kept about a third of them un-iced, however, because the cookies by themselves were so good.

Tania's gonna be on Jeopardy!

I'll have to search for his recipe for next Christmas. I've not been a huge sugar cookie fan either - but snickerdoodles or shortbread?? Yummm.

Yummy. Sugar cookies. I like a Julia Child recipe I picked up out of "The Way To Cook". Almost no flour, just butter and sugar.

Dang it, this is making me hungry. Maybe I'll make some oatmeal scotchies before I go to bed.

Nathan, just what is your problem? Everywhere I go this morning, there you are, talking about Tania and Jeopardy

Oh how tragic. You have to practice making more cookies. Hee!

Sugar cookies are Mr. b's absolute favorites so feel free to send some "failed experiments" our way!

Heh. That's a great idea, bel. You and mr. b are at the top of my "disposal sites" list.

And I can vouch for the taste as well - I'm one of Anne's testers. Sometimes it means extra trips to the gym, but I manage.
