The latest on the job search: I have been asked back for a second interview, this time with the owners of the firm (next week).
Want to know how pretty the pumpkins are? Just look!
I just completely WOWed a six year old boy by being able to talk about Transformers. I am awesome, am I not?

You *are* awesome, Anne!
A) CONGRATULATIONS on the 2nd interview! I know you said that you find yourself well-suited for large projects, but perhaps you will discover some other hidden skills/talents while working on smaller ones, for what sounds like an awesome company.
B) Look at YOU, "growing" into success as a virtual farmer, you! ;)
C) Dude. You impress ME, too!
Congrats Anne! Although the job may not be a perfect fit, here's hoping you get it anyway.
And I'll my "Yes you are awesome!"

That is my thought as well, onewandering. It's a step outside my comfort zone, not necessarily something I won't excel at or thoroughly enjoy at the right firm.
And I have thought that schools and libraries and the like would be fun (read: challenging) programmatically.
Hah!!!!
You are indeed AWESOME with AWESOME SAUCE!
I will think good, positive thoughts for your second interview. I will be waiting with little patience for the status of said interview.*
*That means you need to call me the SECOND you leave the office. Okay, maybe not THAT SECOND. But soon after!
I don't think any of us are surprised you got called back for a second interview. How could it be otherwise?
On the subject of this firm being different from what you're used to:
Have I ever mentioned one of my brothers is an architect? He had dreams of putting up huge buildings and changing skylines. When he was interviewing for his 2nd(?) job, he went and talked to some folks who were going to build shopping malls all over Asia. It couldn't have been further from what he wanted to do, but when they offered him the job, he figured it was only a 2 year commitment and they wanted to pay him really well.
It's been 15 years now. He lives in Bangkok and loves it. He's in upper management now. He's in charge of both S.E. Asia and Eastern Europe now. He travels when he wants to. Did I mention he loves it?
It also doesn't hurt that they've continued to pay him really well and pick up most of his living expenses while they're at it.
That may sound like a drastic detour from his planned career path, but he's really happy. Go in with an open mind. You may just find your perfect niche without even knowing to look for it.
BTW, my word verification was "cosphole". Mind if I giggle like a little boy?
Anne, that is such fabulous, excellent news!
::happy dance:: I hope you wow 'em on the second and find it to be a great fit.
Oooh -- a second interview! That's great. You never know where your career might lead you. If someone told me 5 years ago what my job would be right now, I would've asked them what they were smoking. And I really like my job...
That's a cool story, Nathan. Thank you! :)
And Janiece, it's planned for 1 pm Wednesday. Don't worry about it till after then.
PS - You know what that reminded me of, Nathan? I have already participated in a "skyline changing" project. Time to move on to something different, eh? ;)
I'll readily concur with the "Anne is HAWSOME!" sentiments, because it is very much true.
Yay for second interviews! Go,Anne, go!
(Also, not surprised? Why? See first sentence.)
