The Day I Declared War on the Worms

Poor worms. Sunday I started digging up the yard for a brick patio (see image above for current progress) and felt sorry for all the earthworms I dug up. I hope I displaced them, not killed them.
(For the curious, the white tube in the background is for a conduit I'm putting under the patio in case I need to run waterlines for irrigation in the future.)
Word to the wise: hauling dirt sucks.

What happened to the bush?

I moved it to the alley side of the house some months ago. I knew I was planning to do the patio eventually and it was getting a bit wild looking due to lack of pruning. I pruned it back extremely and moved it at the same time. It seems to have survived the move, since I saw new growth on it this weekend.

I'm so impressed by your ability to do jobs like this. I'm just too plain lazy!!

Hauling dirt does indeed suck. We're in the midst of trying to reclaim yard where the previous inhabitant had a gravel patch for parking extra vehicles. I excavated a sidewalk next to the side of the garage and we used the who-knows-how-many-years-worth of dirt to start one section. There's wee baby grass growing and everything! It's exhausting. Mr. b moved probably another ton of gravel yesterday after work. And there's still more. You could go down to the clay and still find gravel. Sigh.

What happens to the dirt? A good road project has balanced cuts and fills... One word of advice if you put a longer more sweeping elbow on that pipe, it will be much easier to stuff some other wire or hose through it in the future. El Padre
