Discouraged and Melancholy

It amazes me that people manage to get together and stay together for any length of time. It seems to me that figuring out the logistics of personal standards of rhythm and space between two people is so discouraging as to be nearly insurmountable.

Amazingly, I agree completely. I have often wondered this myself. I guess in the end its more about finding someone you like enough to be willing to put up with the times when you are not in sync with one another.

I agree. It has to do with friendship and respect. Not the overused "respect" in current practice, but the respect generated by two equal partners.

You have some pretty smart friends I have always maintained that I had to marry JR bc he put up with me. I'm half kidding. The other half is that I put up with his stuff too. It's not always easy or effortless, but the good should outweigh. Communication is the key. That breeds the friendship and respect.

Uh oh. I hope this doesn't mean the Squeeze is no more!

No, he's not gone. The squeeze and I had a good honest talk the following day and understand each other better now. I'm having fun and learning lots, but in the long run I want more than he's planning to give. He's still a wonderful guy, and we'll be friends for a very long time.

There have been some interesting repercussions of my uncritical acceptance of the squeeze laying down his limits -- a closer, more relaxed friendship. I think he had been putting more work than he realized into keeping me at arm's length. And I, of course, can stop worring about what the heck is going on.
I am definitely learning a lot. It's very nice.
