Settling In

During my super busy early summer, I didn't do much grocery shopping, just coasted on what I had stored up, with occasional supplemental vegetables and prepared items. Things have slowed down considerably (yay!), so this evening I went grocery shopping. That leisurely, wandering down the aisles, impulse grocery shopping. It generally turns out expensively, so I don't do it often, but I try to keep an eye on a couple things -- perishables vs. non-perishables (limit impulse buying of the former, no limit really needed on the latter) and how are my backup stores doing currently and what would I like to have to fill in the gaps?
I enjoyed myself, got a giant bin of blueberries at Costco and some meat to freeze. I plan to make a sweet couscous dish with peanut butter and soy milk and I have tons of mushrooms and some ground bison to make some spaghetti sauce (will freeze smaller portions this time!), but forgot a couple cans of tomato sauce.

Oh, that reminds me. I forgot to brag about the great cookbook that Jeri gave me for hosting her for Denvention. Since she's from Seattle, she appropriately got me Tom Douglas' Seattle Kitchen. I had seen Tom Douglas smack down Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America and really look forward to making some of his slightly Asian influenced recipes.

Don't forget to mark the good ones so that when I visit, you can try them out on me! :-)

Ooh, let me know if you find any good tomato recipes. I've got two plants this year and they're already going bananas. I sent a ton home with my mom this morning and I still have nearly an entire snack bowl full. And plenty of nearly ripe ones one the vine, ready to be picked in the next day or two.

I did just buy a bunch of great tomatoes from Costco, so yep, I can do that for you. :)
